유홍준 국립중앙박물관장은 최근 워싱턴 한국문화원에서 강연을 하면서 환단고기에 대해 비판적인 입장을 표명했다. 그는 “옛날 고조선이 세계를 지배했다는 이야기인데, 그것을 우리가 따라야 하겠는가”라며 환단고기가 단순한 상상력에 불과하다고 주장했다. 또한 환단고기 추종자들에게 “유물을 보고도 그런 말이 나오는지” 물어보고 싶다고 밝혔다.

Museum director Yoo Hong-jun recently gave a lecture at the Korean Cultural Center in Washington and expressed a critical view of the “Hwandan-gogi” text. He questioned, “The story says that ancient Gojoseon dominated the world, but do we really need to follow that?” arguing that the Hwandan-gogi is merely a product of imagination. He also said he would like to ask the Hwandan-gogi followers, “How can you say such things even after seeing the artifacts?”

이에 앞서 문재인 대통령은 동북아역사재단 관계자와의 업무보고에서 환단고기 연구자들을 “환빠”라고 비하했다. 이에 대해 대통령실은 이틀 뒤 “이 주장에 동의하거나 이에 대한 연구·검토를 지시한 것이 아니다”라고 해명했다. 문 대통령은 “역사를 어떤 시각에서, 어떤 입장에서 볼 것인가 하는 근본적인 입장 차이가 있는 것 같다”고 말했다.

Earlier, President Moon Jae-in had disparaged the researchers of the Hwandan-gogi, calling them “Hwanppa” during a briefing with officials from the Northeast Asian History Foundation. The presidential office later clarified that the president did not endorse this claim or order any research or review of the Hwandan-gogi. President Moon said, “It seems there is a fundamental difference in the perspective and position from which we view history.”
